This Year, I’m Choosing to Simplify

February invites us into a quieter kind of leadership.

Not the loud kind.
Not the performative kind.
But the kind that leads with heart, and stands firmly in strength.

As we move through February, the month of love, I find myself returning often to the theme “Lead With Heart, Stand in Your Strength.” It feels especially meaningful as I step into a new year shaped by possibility, pressure, and choice.

Choosing a Word for the Year

One of my favorite reflections each year is choosing a Word for the Year, not as a goal, but as a guide.

My word for 2026 is Simplify.

Life can feel fast, complicated, and overwhelming, especially in a profession that asks so much of us emotionally and mentally. This year, I’m choosing to simplify my life, my schedule, my weeks, and my days in intentional ways that create more clarity and calm.

What Simplify Looks Like for Me

I begin my mornings slowly and on purpose.

For the first hour of my day, I focus on grounding practices:

  • Meditation and reflective reading
  • Journaling and gentle stretching
  • Slowly drinking my tea and protein drink
  • Standing outside to wake up and soak in a little Vitamin D when the sun is out

That quiet space helps me feel centered and focused before the day begins.

Once I’m ready, I ease into my workday. Catching up on emails for both the Foundation and my author platform, listening to a short news update, tuning into a podcast, and moving into staff meetings, coaching calls, or speaking engagements.

I’m also making space to write more again, which is something that feeds my heart and strengthens my voice.

Midday, I pause.
Nutrition. A short walk. A reset.
Those small breaks matter more than we realize, especially when overwhelm tries to creep in.

At the end of the workday, I prepare tomorrow’s to-dos, close up the office, and intentionally turn the noise off.

Evenings are for winding down:

  • Staying off my phone and social media
  • Reading an enjoyable novel
  • Watching something light with my husband
  • Spending time with our pups and horses (weather permitting)

This rhythm supports what I call the 3 C’s:
Calmness. Centeredness. Completion.

And it allows for better rest, deeper sleep, and real recharging, so I can show up the next day with strength and heart.

A Gentle Invitation to You

Leadership doesn’t always require doing more.
Sometimes, it asks us to do less and be more intentional.

  • What practices help you feel grounded and strong?
  • What changes do you want or need to make this year?
  • What is your Word for 2026?
